JANUARY 9, 20081. Four or six cylinder front wheel drive cars with 92” to 105” wheelbase. No all wheel drive. No all wheel steer. No convertibles, no trucks, no two seat coupes. Strictly an economy based class, no performance modifications of any type will be allowed. All decisions on rules are final. There are no protests. No drivers from other Salem Speedway classes (Super Stock or Street Stock) will be allowed to compete. 2. Cars must have stock frame, stock firewall and stock floor pan. Any openings in firewall and floor pan must be covered. No reinforcing of body outside the driver’s compartment. All exterior trim, including lights, body molding, mirrors, etc. must be removed. Stock body panels and stock bumpers are to be used. Bumpers must remain in stock position and be secured and chained so that they will not fall off if impacted. All doors must be welded or bolted shut. Hood must be secured with a minimum of two hood pins. All glass must be removed from the vehicle except front windshield. Front windshield may be replaced with Lexan. All other glass openings are to remain open. No spoilers. 3. All flammable interior trim is to be removed from passenger compartment and trunk. No removal of any interior sheet metal panels except in driver’s door to make room for cage. Stock instrument cluster shall remain in place. Heating and air conditioning box may be removed. Steering column and pedals must remain stock. All air bag components must be removed. 4. A full four or six point cage is required. All cars must have a minimum of three door bars on the driver’s side and two on passenger side. Minimum 1/8” thick plate must be welded or bolted to the outside of the driver’s door bars. Cages must be welded or bolted to the floor of the car. No portion of any bar or cage may be attached to or touch any portion of a strut tower. A maximum of two rear down bars may be used to support the hoop. These bars may run from the top of the hoop behind the driver and extend to the trunk area. A single cross bar of X may be used between these down bars. Rear down bars must be attached to the truck floor. Main cage must have at least two bars running from left to right, between the uprights, behind the driver – one bar at floor level and one bar at shoulder height of the driver. Roll cage padding is mandatory and must be used on any part of the roll cage that can be reached by any extremity of the driver. 5. Aluminum high back racing seat required. Seat must be securely bolted to a mount assembly that is an integral part of the roll cage. Seat will not be attached to the floorboard. A five-point safety harness is mandatory. All belts shall be attached to roll cage. Safety harnesses/seat belts may be no more than 3 years old. Driver’s side window net mandatory. Window net must be able to unlatch for easy drier exit or access of safety personnel, and must be attached to the roll cage. Full fire suit mandatory for driver’s at all times. Approved racing gloves mandatory. Approved racing helmet (Snell 2000 or newer) must be worn. Helmet must bear proper identification and have no signs of previous damage. A form of head/neck restraint or support is required (neck collar, Hans device, etc.). Cars with electrical fuel pumps must have Master Power switch mounted so it is easily accessible by the driver and safety personnel. Master power switch must be clearly labeled as such. All safety equipment is subject to the approval of Salem Speedway officials. 6. All four tires and wheels must be the same size, series and offset. D.O.T. approved passenger car tires only. No “made for racing” tires, no low profile tires. All tires must be non-Directional, All Season Radials. No Asymmetrical tires. Tires can be 13, 14 or 15 inches maximum. They can be 75, 70, 65 or 60 series. A maximum of 7-inch width for 15-inch wheels and 61/2-inches for 14-inch wheels. All four wheels must be the same size and offset. Racing wheels are allowed (not required), but must maintain same size and offset as OEM. Nor rear wheel drive offset wheels will be allowed. No spacers allowed behind wheels. 7. Steering and suspension shall remain stock. Only OEM style shocks, struts and springs allowed. No heating or cutting of springs allowed. Spring Rubbers will be allowed (one per wheel). No progressive rate springs allowed. A maximum of one and one-half-inches of camber measured 90 degrees from bottom of tire will be allowed. For cars that do not have camber adjustments build in from the factory, modification of existing parts, to allow for camber only adjustment will be allowed, but subject to approval by Salem Speedway officials. 8. All four brakes must remain stock. No ABS or traction control of any kind. All ABS sensors must be disabled. 9. Cars that have fuel tank mounted in front of rear axle may use stock tank. Stock fuel tank must have two additional safety straps wrapped from frame to frame. If tank is not mounted in front of rear axle, a fuel cell (maximum 12-gal. capacity) must be used and securely mounted in the trunk area of the car. Trunk mounted tanks cannot be mounted within ten inches of the rear trunk panel and may not extend beyond the side frame rails. All fuel tank installations must be centered between the rear wheels. Only straight pump gasoline may be used. No racing or aviation fuel permitted. 10. Only four or six cylinder naturally aspirated engines allowed. No rotary engines. Only the complete stock engine for the car as delivered from the factory. Stock intake manifold must be used with no modifications. Stock exhaust manifold must be used with no modifications. No Headers, even if delivered from factory (except GM 3.8 liter V-6 may use factory header). Removal of smog, emission, air conditioning, and power steering parts are permitted. Must use stock style starter. Battery may be relocated to an area behind driver. If so it must be secured and covered. Transmission must remain stock and unmodified for that vehicle’s production. Transmission must have working forward and reverse gears. All 6 cylinders may utilize only one cam per head. V-6’s must run an automatic transmission. 11. A complete exhaust must be in place completely under vehicle. No portion of exhaust may pass through interior and must exit under vehicle behind the driver. Removal of catalytic converter is allowed. No weight or ballasts are allowed to be added to car. 12. No radio communication allowed ALL RULES SUBJECT TO INTERPRETATION OF SALEM SPEEDWAY OFFICIALS These rules are subject to change as conditions warrant without notice. All general guidelines for participants; including Guidelines Disclaimer, Safety, Racing Rules, Conduct, Substance Abuse Policy, Official Decisions, etc.; listed in the 2008 Salem Speedway “Official Rules and Regulations” book apply unless otherwise stated in these rules. All cars will display a one or two digit number series (0-99) as assigned. No duplicate numbers allowed. Numbers reserved on a first-come-first-serve basis with a $25 Number Registration Fee. |

Safety Rules 1. Snell 2000 or newer helmet is mandatory. 2. Clean, full driving suit and racing gloves required (Nomex recommended). 3. 4-point roll cage mandatory. 1-3/4”x.095 tubing. Two points in front of the driver and two behind. Cage must be welded in a professional manner and is subject to approval by tech personnel. Resilient padding designed for roll bar use must be installed on any cage member that can be reached by any extremity of driver while normally seated with restraints fastened. 4. Side plate for driver’s door is mandatory. Must be 12” high post to post, ¼” minimum thickness and fastened with six ½” bolts or welded to the cage. 5. A full windshield is mandatory (Lexan recommended). Three vertical bars, a minimum of ¼” thick, must be welded to the cage between the driver and the windshield. All other glass must be removed. 6. Aluminum racing seat, approved seatbelt and harness are required. 7. Factory firewalls must be in place in front and behind driver. 8. Fuel cell with foam is mandatory (maximum 22 gallons). Fuel cell must be enclosed in a full steel can, surrounded by two steel straps and mounted in a secure fashion. Rear hoop must be attached to frame in truck section of car for fuel cell protection (min. 1-1/2” tubing). 9. Drivers side window net is mandatory (must be securely mounted to roll cage). No homemade or string nets. General Rules 1. 3200 lb. Minimum weight with driver after race. 108” minimum wheel base, OEM specifications. 2. Car must be American made, 1960 or newer. No convertibles, station wagons or pickups. 3. Automatic transmission with OEM type working torque converter. No oil coolers in driver’s compartment. 4. Standard transmissions, 3 or 4 speeds, with OEM standard ratios will be allowed to compete with the use of two barrel carburetor (Stock production Holley #4412 two barrel 500 CFM to NASCAR specifications) and 100-lb. weight penalty (3300 lb. minimum weight with driver after race). Must use a steel blow proof bell housing if using stock type clutch. 71/4 or larger metallic mini clutch will be allowed and may use an aluminum bell housing. Starters must mount in stock location. A hydraulic throw out bearing will be allowed. 5. Only 7” and 8” racing wheels allowed. Only tires allowed are - Hoosier F,G or H 10-15 Commanche (27.5-80-15 or 26.5-80-15). No plated tires (AEI, SST, etc.) allowed. No softener or tire treatment of any kind. 6. Stock suspension parts only. Cars must retain stock OEM spec parts. A-frames, spindles, trailing arms and steering components must remain stock for that make and model of car. Reinforced or aftermarket axles, including a floater rear end are allowed and recommended. 7. Maximum tread width for front and rear of car measured from outside of tires at spindle height is 76”. 8. One steel non-adjustable shock per wheel, maximum cost of shock $100. Any shock determined to have a new price of more than $100 will not be allowed. 9. Engines must be all cast iron: block, heads, intake and exhaust (no headers). No aluminum parts except: radiator, water pump, front pulleys, carb spacer, valve covers, power steering bracket and reservoir. Battery must be properly encased. 10. Engine in stock location or the front left sparkplug must be no further back than to align with center of ball joint on left upper control arm. No angle plug heads. No roller rocker arms or cams. Rocker arms must be stock configuration and stamped steel. Wet sump oiling only. 11. Two or four barrel carburetor only. No duel-line or double pumper. No rear metering block. One spacer plate or one adapter, not over 1¼” inches including gaskets. 12. Exhaust must be 2 pipes (max. 2 ½” diameter) that must exit in front of the right rear tire. Pipes may not be connected in any way. Tubing may be oval shape for clearance. 13. Stock steel bodies with stock components and locations. No aftermarket bodies allowed. All cars must have stock firewall and floorpan in place. GM to GM, Ford to Ford. Cars must have full fenders and hood. 14. No traction control devices of any kind allowed. 15. No spoiler, scoops, or ground effects either stock or aftermarket allowed. 16. Hood, truck and doors must be welded, pinned or bolted down. 17. Radio communication allowed. Radio frequencies will be monitored. No radio communication with scorer. 18. Electronic scoring will be used, however One scorer mandatory per car. Track is not responsible for finding a scorer. 200-laps using yellow and red flags. No time limit. 19. Numbers are first come, first serve. No duplicate numbers. After sending in your entry call the track at 812-883-6504 to confirm your number. Number must be on race car day of race and LEGIBLE. Numbers must be 24” high and a minimum of 3” wide on both doors and on the roof of car. A 6” high number must appear in the upper right hand corner of the windshield. 20. Entries are limited to the first 125 paid entries. Firecracker 200 entry fee is $75 if received by June 25, 2008. Halloween 200 entry fee is $75 if received by October 22, 2008. You may also pre-enter both races for $125 (prior to June 25, 2008). Late entry fee is $100. Absolutely no checks accepted day of race (pit passes or entry). 21. No entry refunds. Promoter has the right to reject any entry or car from competing. Rules are subject to change at official’s discretion and weight penalties may be added for rule infractions. 22. Any disagreement over technical questions or operations will be resolved by the racing officials. When their decision is rendered, such decision is final and binding. Track officials will determine all finishing positions and their decision is final and non-litigate. 23. Starting line-up will be determined by blind draw. 21. Drivers are responsible for cleaning own pit area before leaving. Charge for leaving parts or tires behind |
